I noticed that when I use circular members, the diameter I enter is adjusted by the program (reduced) by a small factor 1.0014174 (approx). The area, moment of inertia and other factors are impacted. This makes comparing results with other programs a little more difficult. Is there a reason for this, or am I doing something wrong somewhere? Thanks.
Dear Stephen
firstly, thanks for your interest in NextFEM Designer.
Circular sections and pipes are treated inside the program as a series of linear segments. You can see all the points used from Edit/Sections/pick a circular section/Edit properties button/By points tab.
This is the reason why you found a little approximation. This can make a comparison more laborious (even with scientific notation?), but this will not affect quality of results.
That makes sense now. Thanks for clarifying.
